This section has a set of suggestions of routes that have been enjoyed by our visitors in the past. Come with us and find the "Hidden Charm" of Vietnam. This page takes you to:
The North East
In the far north east of Vietnam is the Province of Cao Bang which offers some of the country's most fascinating scenery in the form of the karst landscapes familiar to us in Chinese paintings. These extraordinary limestone towers with their neighbouring villages and terraced rice fields present the visitor with a fascinating experience.

In the far north east of Vietnam is the Province of Cao Bang which offers some of the country's most fascinating scenery in the
form of the karst landscapes familiar to us in Chinese paintings. These extraordinary limestone towers with their neighbouring villages and terraced rice fields present the visitor with a fascinating experience. On this route we take you first to the National Park at Ba Be where you can stay beside the Lake which is the largest in northern Vietnam.
From there up to Cao Bang and out into that Province in a wide circle through the fertile fields and up to the rugged border country. At the apex of the tour we reach the famous Ban Gioc Waterfalls or cascade, a splendid curved wall with many waterfalls falling into the lagoon below on which boats from both China (on the far bank) and Vietnam ply. The return journey takes us down the eastern borderlands to the gateway city of Lang Son where you can visit the Tam Thanh pagoda and shop in the Ky Lua market with its array of Chinese imports. Also here you may wish to see the To Thi Stone and visit the French hill station of Mau San with its medicinal baths before our return to Ha Noi.
- Open Jeep for two or three passengers
- Jeep fully covered in bad weather
- English speaking driver
- Available either as 'Jeep & driver' or as a package including hotels and food
- Please note some of these areas are closed to foreigners on unpredictable occasions
- Suggested Route: Ba Be National Park, Quang Uyen, the Karst landscapes of Cau Bang, Ban Gioc Waterfall, Trung Khanh, Lang Son
- Add extra nights at the ATK, and/or Pac Bo and/or Ha Long Bay
Below the map shows a route you might take in red, but if at all possible we do suggest that you avoid the Cao Bang to Lang Son road, (as shown on this map) and instead detour through the central part of the country (that eastern road is long and boring with too little of interest)
